The almost perfect roundabout
is NOT proposed for Kinderhook NY.

BUT the most IMPERFECT experimental one IS.

INTRODUCTION

April 19, 2004

A proposed roundabout could be forced upon the residents of Kinderhook NY in the near future by the Widewaters Group who plan a 19-acre shopping strip mall with a 484-car parking lot. The proposed 5-legg roundabout's 5th leg would be built from the intersection to their strip mall. This is their way of handling the additional traffic the mall would bring to an already hazardous intersection.

The roundabout is proposed as a traffic mitigation measure so Widewaters can build their strip mall at that busy location.  The proposed 19.9 acre strip mall is on the westside of the US9/NY 9H and State Farm Road intersection. The large strip mall would contribute one leg to the roundabout.

NOTE: Four of the five legs (including one to be built as an entrance to the strip mall) would be in the bottom half of the roundabout. According to the Federal Highway Guidelines, all four legs would be within a dangerous 180 degrees of eachother.
